What is the game about
The King of Fighters XV is an upcoming fighting video game in The King of Fighters series developed and published by SNK. Its launch is scheduled for February 17, 2022 on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Microsoft Windows platforms. It was officially announced during EVO 2019.
Due to the positive response to The King of Fighters XIV, director Yasuyuki Oda said in November-2017 that The King of Fighters XV was possible, but that SNK wanted to focus on other franchises as well. In December 2018, SNK revealed that the company was working on The King of Fighters XV, with the goal of releasing it during 2020, SNK president Zhihui GE said that the XV will use Unreal Engine 4 to provide better graphics.
On December 3, 2020, SNK published an official trailer announcing the first sketches of the new 3 character designs featuring Kyo Kusanagi, Benimaru Nikaido, and Shun’Ei. On January 7, 2021, along with a trailer with new downloadable content for Samurai Shodown, the first view in action of Kyo, Shun’ei, Benimaru, K’, Mai Shiranui and Leona Heidern was revealed, at the same time as the confirmation of the release for 2021, along with future trailers. However, on June 1, 2021, SNK announced that KOF XV had been postponed to the first quarter of 2022 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
This game so far retains the same original voice actors as its predecessor, including those who have been performed by the same voice actors since their debut or for many years. Exceptions include Benimaru, Athena, King, Ash Crimson. While Yashiro Nanakase and his team, Chizuru Kagura among others appear with new voices, although very similar.
